  • Abaqis is a tool designed to replicate the methods and procedures of the Quality Indicator Survey (QIS).   • The Alzheimer's Association website is a great source for research, tools and information. Their professional care providers section provides a variety of useful materials for facilities and professionals, and the CareSource section helps caregivers coordinate assistance from family and friends, locate senior housing and enhance caregiving skills.   • The NYS Department of Health's Edge Program is a web based resource designed to give staff members in dementia care settings the tools they need to help provide quality care. The program offers guidance to identify and implement interventions that specifically address care and communication challenges faced in dementia care. Read more here>>

  • The Alzheimer's Association's Green-Field Library is the nation's largest library and resource center devoted to increasing knowledge about Alzheimer's. Librarians are available to take questions by phone, e-mail or live chat. Online users can search the catalog, find books, journals and videos.   • Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kan. has developed a creative way to keep residents engaged by integrating an all-day kindergarten class into the facility. In the Age to Age classroom, residents and students read together, exercise and learn valuable lessons that only the elders can provide. Through the classroom interaction, this facility has found a way to battle the three illnesses of loneliness, helplessness and boredom that plague nursing homes. Learn more here.

  • "INSIDE ALZHEIMER'S: How to Hear and Honor Connections with a Person who has Dementia," is a new book on dementia by Nancy Pearce, a medical social worker with more than 20 years of experience in long term care, with a foreword by Dr. Allan Power, Eden Mentor at St. John's Home in Rochester, N.Y., and associate professor of medicine at the University of Rochester. The author discusses the principles that have "helped hundreds of caring family members, friends and professionals bridge the gap between their known and comfortable worlds and the sometimes daunting, unchartered territory of time spent with a person with dementia," according to the publisher. The book is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble as well as the publisher here.
  • Bigfork Valley, an Eden Alternative facility in northern Minnesota, maintains a person-centered model of care by using career ladders, weekly team decision-making meetings and a blended workforce in which frontline staff at all levels are trained as certified nursing assistants.
