A New Program Offering with Carmen Bowman
“Using the New Dining Practice Standards to Excel in Dining”
Food nourishes us, body and soul. Breaking bread together embodies powerful symbols of well-being, acceptance and builds relationships between people of all ages. Dining should create a meaningful experience that relies on engaging all of the senses: the use of fresh ingredients, good conversation, contributing to the process and cultivating deep connections between all involved. Learn how this simple, yet frequently overlooked, concept can enrich the art of creating caring environments. Join culture change expert, former Colorado surveyor and CMS Policy Analyst, Carmen Bowman who assisted in writing the new CMS guidelines that went into effect in June 2009 and is the basis for the new QIS survey process.
Using the New Dining Practice Standards to Excel in Dining:
The one-day skill building development program stems from the 2010 Creating Home II National Symposium on Culture Change and the Food and Dining Requirements. This event was co-sponsored by CMS and the Pioneer Network, that created the Clinical Dining Standards Task Force, which crafted and finalized the new Dining Practice Standards in September 2011. The standards have been agreed upon by 12 clinical organizations and will be referred to by CMS in the future. Come and learn the standards, the evidence based research that backs it and how the standards coincide with federal and New York requirements from the facilitator of both the Creating Home II symposium and the Task Force, Carmen Bowman. Be inspired to use the new standards to keep improving yours!
